CULTURAL POLICY, Distinction Grade 3500 word report, University of Nottingham
Cultural Policy
The project is made up of 3 parts, which will be assessed holistically (i.e. they’re
not sub-elements):
Part 1: ‘cultural policy is what governments at various scales choose to do or not
to do in relation to culture’ (Bell and Oakley, 2015: 47).
Using this quote as a
starting point, choose one example (a concept, an issue, a process, an
institution) in order to illustrate and critically explore an area relevant to block one
of the module.
Part 2: ‘there is considerable contest over the national state’s role in culture, and
even more variation in how that role plays out’ (Bell and Oakley, 2015: 110).
Using this quote as a starting point, choose one example (an event, a concept, a
debate, an issue, a process, an institution) in order to illustrate and critically
explore an area relevant to block two of the module.
Part 3: ‘perhaps the prime site of cultural policy development in the past thirty
years or more has been the city’ (Bell and Oakley, 2015: 76).
Using this quote as
a starting point, choose one example (an urban development, a campaign, an
institution, an event, a festival) in order to illustrate and critically explore an area
relevant to block three of the module.
You can draw on examples used on the module itself, but in at least one of the
parts of your project, you should draw on an example which you have sourced
yourself.
Word length: 3500 words (+/- 10%). Ideally, each part of your project should be
roughly of a similar length (i.e. 1160 words (+/- 10%)).
Deadline: 25 January 2023.
Formative assessment
You can submit a rough draft of one part of your project for formative feedback
by, and you will receive written feedback on this by the end of term.
